Presents the text of interviews with Venezia conducted by Prasquier in Rome in April-May 2006. The interviews were done in Italian and then translated into French and checked by Venezia. He was born in Salonika in 1923 to an Italian family with five children. As Italian citizens, they were able to remain outside the ghetto which was created in 1942. Venezia was evacuated to Athens by the Italians in 1943, with his mother and four siblings. In March 1944 the family was deported to Auschwitz, where his mother and two of his sisters were gassed upon arrival. Venezia and his brother were selected for the Sonderkommando. Gives a detailed description of the work of the Sonderkommando, which consisted of clearing the bodies from the gas chambers and transferring them to the crematoria. In January 1945, Venezia was sent on a death march to Mauthausen, Melk, and Ebensee. After the war he settled in Italy; his brother and one sister survived. Includes two essays, presented as "Notes historiques":
